MotoGP: Dovizioso struggling less on the Ducati, but “the problem is Morbidelli

"I feel better on the bike this weekend, I’m not making as much effort to do a clean lap and this is positive". Finally, in the words of the unexpected (but only because he arrived at Misano 3 points behind Quartararo) points leader Andrea Dovizioso, there is a hint of optimism. Dovi, in fact, has been preaching caution about his season since the winter tests due to a still indigestible tyre at Ducati and which has given him only one joy in Austria so far.

“Today I concentrated on the medium tyre in the afternoon because this morning it worked really badly - said Dovi - not just for me but for everyone. After a few laps you could see the tyre was destroyed, we don't know why ”.

This afternoon you did a lot of work with the medium tyre, might this be the right choice for the Ducati?

“It didn't go badly because between the best lap of the session and my last lap there is a difference of only three tenths. The problem is that Morbidelli was six tenths faster and there is a noticeable difference. We can't close all six tenths of a gap but something is in our hands and we can improve. I believe and hope that the medium tyre goes with the other bikes better than ours. In Ducati we should consider the soft, so far we have only worked on the medium and we will see what will happen tomorrow ”.

You improved from last week, the tests seem to have produced some good solutions. How balanced do you think Sunday's race will be?

"I have a clear idea of what to improve on the bike, we have the speed and tomorrow it will be very important to finish qualifying in the top 10 even though I have the feeling that it will be more complicated than last week. We improved but the others did too, just look at the KTMs which certainly found something in the tests. The race will be close, the details will make the difference, everything is still open ”.

Before qualifying tomorrow there will be a very important FP3 session, crucial to get back into the top 10 and avoid the pitfall of Q1. What do you expect?

“It will be an important but complicated session. With a lap of 31.8 we will struggle to get into the top 10, the track is fast but it will depend a lot on the track conditions and the wind ”.
