MotoGP: Quartararo: “The engines? I’m crossing my fingers so that nothing breaks.”

Maverick Vinales will pay dearly for Yamaha’s engine problems and, on Sunday, he’ll have to start from the pit lane, since he sealed his sixth engine, one more than the seasonal limit. That’s a serious blow to his world championship hopes, and now one wonders if Quartararo could have the same problem.

Petronas’ French rider would rather not think about it, but itì’s practically impossible not to.

I don’t know what the mileage of my engine is. Let’s say I’m crossing my fingers, and I’m hoping nothing breaks,” Fabio confessed. “I don’t think my situation in this sense is the best, but I’m not doing that bad either. For the moment, I think it’s more important to stay focused on my work.”

Something difficult to do because it’s a topic that has a direct impact on the championship, where Quartararo is 2nd, and many were surprised that the riders were not penalized.

I think it’s a question that mainly concerns Yamaha,” Fabio explained. “I respect the FIM’s decision, but I don’t have an actual opinion. The penalty was given, now we have to look ahead.”

Quartarato still remains on Yamaha’s side, even if he could lose the World Championship through no fault of his own.

This year, I won three races, Morbidelli two, and Vinales one, so I’m happy with the bike we have,” he emphasized, “I know everyone is doing their best and, in any case, this season will end up being fantastic for me.

What worries Fabio most is the weather, because he was last in the standings with the rain this morning.

I had some really bad sensations, it was hard to find confidence on the bike and, in fact, I didn’t have any,” he admitted. “We have some ideas to improve in wet conditions, but we weren’t able to test them in the afternoon. Maybe we’ll do it tomorrow. In the end, it was important in dry conditions in the FP2s to stay in the top ten and get a place in the Q2, especially if it rains tomorrow morning.”
