MotoGP: Michelin: a new casing to speed up tyre warming times

In the Misano tests we saw an early anticipation of 2022 on a number of bikes, but Michelin is also working for the future. A new rear tyre was made available to the riders. "We brought a new casing that we had already tested in Qatar and Barcelona, the goal is to speed up the warm-up of the tyre in the first two or three laps. The overall performance is the same as the standard one” explained Piero Taramasso, racing manager for the French manufacturer.

However, the tests are not finished and it is not yet certain when this new casing will be introduced in the races.

"The feedback is positive; we are going in the right direction but we need to do more tests before we understand when we can introduce it - continued Taramasso - Maybe for 2022 it will be a bit soon because we must first be sure that all the riders and teams approve it. From the point of view of industrialization, however, we will be able to produce them very quickly. When that happens, the casing will help riders to use the hard compound ”.

There will be another opportunity to collect data…

“In the Jerez tests we will try it again, because to better understand how it works we need low temperatures and we will probably find them there” he concluded.
