SBK: Josh Brookes back to winning form in British Superbike ahead of the Ducatis

Still the most successful racer in British Superbike with two titles to his name (2015 with Milwaukee Yamaha and 2020 with PBM Ducati) and many wins to his credit, the last two years gave Josh Brookes very few moments of joy. Just four podiums and failure to qualify for the Showdown last season prompted him to team up with FHO Racing BMW for 2023. A choice motivated in words and now, also in deeds. Appearing immediately regenerated by the M 1000 RR, as evidenced by third quickest time in qualifying and a podium in Race 1 yesterday, today the BSB "Bad Boy" was back to winning form in a chaotic Race 2 on the National (short) layout at Silverstone, site of the first of eleven rounds scheduled on the calendar, which came to a premature end due to Danny Buchan's disastrous crash.

Brookes back on top

Win number 54 in BSB came unexpectedly. Finding himself in the lead of the group of seven pacesetters at the start of the final sprint to the flag, a scary high-speed high side from brand mate Danny Buchan (he was OK) coming out of Woodcote prompted the race direction to suspend the race. Race 2 thus ended three laps early and the final standings were drawn up based on the order on lap 27.  It was a good outcome for Josh Brookes, in his first triumph as a BMW rider who at the same time put an end to the fasting period that had lasted since Brands Hatch 2020, when he also won the title for the second time in his career.

Two Ducatis on the podium

Although still without victories, the Ducati Panigale V4 R is finally making up for the competitiveness it lost too many times in the recent past. Always behind Brookes, Tommy Bridewell picked up another second place, confirming the good things expressed so far in his debut with the BeerMonster PBM colours. TB46 finished ahead of teammate Glenn Irwin, who switched up a gear in the second half of the race after a poor start, while Christian Iddon (Moto Rapido) was involved in an accident with Charlie Nesbitt at Luffield during the early stages.

At 17:30 the start of Race 3

The reigning runner-up finished ahead of Race 1 winner Kyle Ryde (OMG Racing Yamaha) and Jason O'Halloran (McAMS Yamaha, Race 3 poleman by virtue of the fastest lap set at the start), respectively fourth and fifth. Worthy of note was the performance of the multiple British Supersport champion Jack Kennedy, increasingly at home on the Yamaha R1 prepared by Mar-Train Racing, seventh behind the 2018 Champion Leon Haslam (ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team). At 17:30 Italian time, the third and final race of the weekend is scheduled, over 30 laps.
