Through a statement issued last night, the organizers of the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man announced that an accident occurred during yesterday’s qualifying session involving two drivers, a race marshal, and a spectator. Unfortunately, two out of the four died, but neither was yet identified. An investigation was opened.
The following is the full statement:
“The Southern 100 confirms that a serious accident occurred during tonight’s qualifying session on the Billown Course. The incident involved two riders, a marshal, and a spectator, and it is with deep sadness that the Southerh 100 regrets to announce that this incident has resulted in two fatalities. The Southern 100 sends its deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, and friends of those involved. At this time, we are unable to provide further details on those involved in the incident, and the current focus of the organizer to support those involved. The coroner of inquests has been informed. A further statement will be released in due course.”
Since 1955, the Southern 100 has been taking place on a portion of the Tourist Trophy track. Michael Dunlop – one of the riders of the 2023 edition of the TT – was also present this year.
