MotoGP: Bagnaia and the Barcelona taboo: “Ready to face the GP in all conditions”

The Barcelona GP is missing from Bagnaia’s collection. The Ducati World Champion has never won at Montmelò, in any class. Last year, he started from 2nd place, which could have been a good opportunity, but an accident at the start had taken away any hope.

He can, however, try again this weekend in Spain, after his incredible Red Bull Ring weekend, during which he dominated both in the qualifications and races. Pecco is now 62 points ahead in the standings over Martin and 68 over Bezzecchi.

I’m happy to race again at Montmelò,” Bagnaia said. “We could’ve had a good race last year, but I fell at the first corner and was forced to bail out. After a perfect weekend in Austria, we have all the prerequisites to be able to do well here, too. My sensations on the bike are great, and my team is working really well, always giving me what I ask for and putting me in a position to be competitive. We’ll see what the weather’s like but, in any case, we’re ready to face the weekend in any condition.

His teammate, Enea Bastinanini, has different goals, because the rider from Rimini has yet to find the right feeling on the Ducati GP23 after his long hiatus due to a shoulder injury. In Austria, he had made progress, which he’ll have to confirm in Barcelona.

I’m going to Montmelò without too many expectations,” Enea admitted. “My priority now is to be able to adjust the bike, in order to be competitive again. The weekend at the Red Bull Ring allowed us to gather more information, which we will definitely use to get back to work on Friday. I still need time, but I know the potential is there. I’m calm and ready to face the weekend in Barcelona.
