The third and final day of Shakedown in Sepang went under the sign of Pedro Acosta. The GasGas rookie concluded the tests in first place with a time of 1m58.189s, a very respectable benchmark, just 7 tenths from the official track record which belongs to Pecco Bagnaia in 1m57.491s. The Spaniard even had two crashes, the first at around 1.30pm, when he slid off at turn 11 at low speed on his lap back to the garage, the second, however, came at the end of the day at turn 15.
With an hour and a half left before the end of the tests the track was hit by a violent downpour, but once the storm had passed, Acosta went out onto the track to do his first laps in the wet in MotoGP (with him there were also Cal Crutchlow and Lorenzo Savadori), but he was betrayed by the conditions, without however suffering any consequences from the crash.
Going back to the ranking, behind Pedro, 66 thousandths of a second adrift, was KTM test rider Pol Espargarò, while Johann Zarco brought the Honda of the LCR team to 3rd position, with a gap of 0.211s from the top. Fourth place for Fabio Quartararo on the Yamaha, which brought an evolution of the engine. The Frenchman stopped the clocks 0.249s behind Acosta and finishing ahead of Dani Pedrosa, always fast despite his advancing age, by 4 hundredths.
Joan Mir, satisfied with the large amount of new stuff brought by Honda, finished in 6th place ahead of Alex Rins, about a tenth behind his teammate. Luca Marini is adapting to the RC213V and left the Shakedown with the 8th fastest time, ahead of Cal Crutchlow, the last rider to lap under 1m59s. Tenth place for Takaaki Nakagami ahead of Lorenzo Savadori (stopped twice on the track due to technical problems) and Michele Pirro.
Tomorrow and Monday there will be no action on the track, the 3 days of official testing will begin on Tuesday with all the riders present.
