Today’s Yamaha at Phillip Island had two faces. On one, Locatelli was flying high. On the other, Johnny Rea was suffering. In fact, the Cannibal was out of the ten on Friday, and he didn’t hide the difficulties he faced riding the R1.
“On a pyhsical level, I think I made good progress,” he began. “In fact, I can move better on the bike than on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I had a serious problem with the bike, and we’re working on the components with the team to solve it. It’s unacceptable, we have to figure out how to intervene on this problem.”
Johnny was really disappointed.
“Today was a very difficult day, and we hope to find the solution. I need time to fix this. On a personal level, I can say that my work group is fantastic, but I’m still not riding the Yamaha the way I should. I’m fast, but not fast enough.”
He honestly admitted the situation.
“It took longer than I expected. I think tomorrow will be the toughest race of my life.”
Andrea Locatelli also had something to say.
“This morning, starting again with the right feeling was important,” he said. “I think we have a good pace and, at the same time, the chance of being able to have a good race. Today, the sensations weren’t the best, but an improvement is expected tomorrow as far as the weather is concerned. We’ll try again to do our best.”
He also spoke about the difficulties Rea faced.
“I honestly don’t know why Johnny is struggling so much. He's a great champion. He got on a Yamaha after so many years with Kawasaki. Maybe he’ll need time to adjust.”
Loka’s goal is clear.
“We’re here to try to win, aware of what our potential is. We’ll have to deal with the pit stop, and that’s going to be a big challenge.”
