After an overwhelming end to the season, in which he finished with two podiums and four consecutive victories in the last six races, Fermin Aldeguer returned with a vengeance as the center of attention, and not only due to the results he achieved on the track. After his move to the MotoGP fell through last year, the leader of the last official Moto2 test day in Jerez – with a new unofficial record on the Spanish track – seems to already have a contract in his pocket for 2025.
According to what our colleagues at Motorsport.com, revealed, Fermin spoke with Gigi Dall’Igna in January about wearing the Pramac Racing team’s colors in the premier class starting next season. An indiscretion the 18-year-old rider from Spain commented on during the tests: “Everyone is talking about it, but I’m very focused on the Moto2 season now, which is an important year for me. It’s always better to arrive in the MotoGP as a World Champion,” he said, as he smiled during an interview with Speedweek.
Without confirming or denying the news of his promotion, Aldeguer wanted to keep the focus on this Moto2 season, where he’ll be starting among the big favorites for the title, and with Pirelli tires in this first year, the championship’s new sole supplier.
“I have options (ed. for the future). We’ll see after a few races. First of all, we have to start the season well,” the SpeedUp team’s rider emphasized, even if he still hasn’t a clear idea about the new tires: “All the riders are very fast, but it’s very easy to look for the time in a fast lap. However, when it comes to covering the race distance, you have to manage the rear tire very well. It’s important to have a lot of information for the race.”
