MotoGP, Quartararo: “We are further away than ever from our opponents”

Fabio distraught: “Unfortunately we have worsened compared to last season. Previously we had a strong point in cornering speed, now we no longer have it. It's a difficult and sad situation, because I know my potential and what I can give."

MotoGP: Quartararo: “We are further away than ever from our opponents”

It's a heartbroken and disconsolate Fabio Quartararo at the end of the Qatar GP. In fact, the Frenchman finished outside the top ten, losing 17 seconds to Bagnaia's Ducati. It may also be true that they are working hard at Yamaha, but the Frenchman needs a change of pace which we haven't seen yet.

His words at the end of the race photograph the moment that El Diablo is experiencing with the M1.

“The result is what it is – commented the Frenchman – unfortunately it is a difficult situation and what can I say. On the one hand we see those who work really hard while we are very far away. It's sad, because I know what my potential is and what I can do but we're behind."

The Frenchman is not hiding behind a finger, on the contrary...

"We improved, so this is something difficult to say. But the level of our bike compared to the others, it's true that we are further than ever. We are further than last year. We have improved a little bit but they are even better and faster than last year.”

Quartararo analysed the race.

“I tried to manage the tyres, taking advantage of the acceleration, but the potential of our bike with new tyres is low. We therefore need to find a solution especially on the other tracks where we won't have to manage like here. As I said, I tried to manage but it was difficult. The potential expressed in the first laps is low and this affects performance. I made a great start, I was behind I think Aleix and Acosta at the beginning. But as soon as there are long corners with a lot of acceleration, which was our strong point in 2021 where I pulled away from the Ducatis in the triple right, it is now our weak point.”

The last consideration concerns the gap between the Saturday race and the sprint.

“On Saturday, over a distance of 11 laps, we reached 12 seconds while today we reached 17. I don't know why we can't be fast in the sprint and this is also a problem to understand because we can't be that far away”.
