MotoGP, Marquez and Bagnaia, like Senna and Prost, but what was at stake ... if not their honor?

The difference is that Ayrton and Alain hated each other, while Marc and Pecco haven't even begun to do so. What's certain is that, when you put two thoroughbreds against each other, these things happen. But, in the end, in this case, what was at stake?

MotoGP: Marquez and Bagnaia, like Senna and Prost, but what was at stake ... if not their honor?

It could've happened. A racing accident, one would say. Then, natutrally, there would be the various bells and whistles placing blame on one or the other, But that's really how racing is. And, when there's no intentionality, as Max Biaggi would say: "It's not classical music".

The fact remains that Marc and Pecco took each other out while fighting for a 5th position. Nothing to do, in short, with the accident between Iannone and Dovizioso in Argentina, in Rio Hondo, in 2016: the podium was at stake there.

The Ducati team's consternation, however, was the same. Hands through their hair, and off they went. And that's how important points were lost for the reigning world champion - engaged in defending his title against Martin the "satellite" - and for the "private" eight-time world champion who (we should remembered) was riding a leased Ducati and, certainly, the last thing he would've wanted was to end up colliding with the constructor's number one rider, which could place him among the official riders in 2025.

We mentioned a collision, because that's what it was. And we said that any reasoning aimed at wanting to blame someone would be specious. But we can certainly say that neither one was willing to give up his position to the other. Marquez overtook, going a bit wide. Bagnaia resisted, also obviously going a bit wide. The laws of physics did the rest: the GP23 masterfully ridden by Marc that returned to its trajectory, on a collision course with Bagnaia's GP24 that, with an impossible lean angle, was trying to find a spot on the asphalt that not even Stephan Hawking, twisting the universe's laws of physics, could have given him.

We've seen situations like this in the past and, in this specific case, the duo reminded us of the clashes between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prostbut, but only because of the suggested collision. However, there's a difference: the two hated each other, while Marc and Pecco haven't even begun to do so. What's certain is that, when you put two thoroughbreds against each other, these things happen. But, in the end, in this case, what was at stake, if not their honor?

Well, if it doesn't seem like much to you ...
