It was a positive Friday experienced by the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team riders at the Circuit of the Americas, the venue for the third round of the MotoGP season. In fact, both Fabio Di Giannantonio and his teammate Marco Bezzecchi managed to secure direct access to Q2, ending the day in ninth and tenth position respectively. An important result for both riders, especially in light of the difficulties encountered in the first races of the year.
While still not perfectly comfortable riding the Desmosedici GP23, Bez continues to make progress and can be satisfied with the strides made so far.
"It was a positive day for me, except for the second time attack where I found the yellow flags, which prevented me from making a real attempt. Despite this I still managed to stay in the Top 10 and I must say that both the morning and afternoon sessions were quite positive," said the Romagna native after the first day in Texas.
Encouraging feelings ahead of today's Qualifying and Sprint race, where Marco hopes to further reduce his gap with the leaders.
"I was able to make progress both in terms of the bike and my riding. I'm trying to work a lot on this, to try to compensate with the riding to what I lack in terms of feeling with the bike, and it didn't go badly - he added - Obviously, the riders in front like Jorge and Maverick are a little bit distant, but my pace was not bad . "
Di Giannantonio: "The goal is to qualify in the first two rows."
There is still a little something to sort out on the other side of the VR46 team box as well, but Fabio Di Giannantonio seems to be on the right track after a complicated start.
"Honestly, the feeling was not the best, although the pace was decent. In the morning I struggled especially with the front, because I had a lot of understeer, then in the afternoon I felt better, thanks to a modification that Munoz made to the bike and it allowed me to be much faster, especially in the race pace," the Roman said, going into a bit more detail about the work done with his chief technician: "We changed something about the balance of the bike, but I'm not sure what yet, because I'm someone who likes to have a lot of information, while David is the kind of chief technician who doesn't say much (smiles). On the one hand it's a good thing, because the riders don't need to know too much, but on the other hand if you have a good feeling and you feel a difference with the changes that have been made, knowing how you have intervened can allow you to help the team get to the right solution sooner. We are just at the beginning and we still need time to get to know each other."
Despite everything, Diggia can still be satisfied with his Friday. A good base from which to start again, in order to achieve a good result in the race as well.
"In any case I'm very happy with how it went, also because I wasn't feeling very well right before practice, I had a big headache, so I'm really happy that I managed to hit the target of getting into Q2 and to have perfected my feeling with the bike ," he stressed, " I still need to improve a little bit at the front to be closer to the top riders, but at the moment I would say we have the potential to qualify on the first two rows and build a good race, starting from there."
