MotoGP, Pedrosa: "Too bad about the problems in the afternoon. Positive morning."

"When I got on the second bike, I noticed a totally different behavior from the first one, and that turned our program upside down. Tomorrow? It will be crucial to qualify well. Acosta? I'm here to do my race."

MotoGP: Pedrosa:

Seventh and 14th on his first day as a 2024 wild card at the Jerez circuit, Dani Pedrosa admitted he encountered some critical issues riding the KTM he is helping to develop.

"In the morning everything went smoothly, while in the afternoon we had a problem and we couldn't do it in the same way ," he explained in the heat. " I tried a different bike than in the morning, but the sensations were not positive. Then, when I decided to go back to the first one, in turn 2 on the first lap I crashed. Maybe I pushed too hard with the tires which were not yet ready. At that point I got back on the second bike again and it was hard to pull out a good time. It' s a shame we didn't automatically go to Q2 . Now we will have to analyze the data to understand what we missed today and tomorrow we will try again."

After assuring that he will focus on himself this weekend and not on Acosta, the 38-year-old said, "Pedro is in a very positive moment and is showing that the motorcycle is working well. A comforting aspect for us as a team. Binder, on the other hand, crashed while he was going around on the last tire. I saw him on the ground but I don't really know what happened to him. Maybe without this episode he could have improved."

Going into detail about the work done he then explained, "I tried to fine tune the bike, but also to go after the time. When you compare yourself with riders of this level you can't not push. Have there been too many new things to test? No, the problem is that there will be adjustments to be made because one bike does not ride like the other. That is a bit of a concern. Overall, we created a baseline in the previous tests, however there were some new components to test. For example, we worked on the aerodynamics of the front fender, a component that does not affect the behavior of the bike. You can only feel more downforce. Unfortunately, the afternoon session only served us to investigate the reason for the different behavior of the two versions. How does a practice session differ from a private session? The track conditions are different, starting with the wind. In some areas there is similarity, in others you can give more. Certainly the track in race conditions evolves quickly."

Looking ahead, the rider from Sabadell said, "Tomorrow it could rain, especially in the morning, and the conditions could be different from today. These are aspects that will have a bearing on the day. It will be important to qualify well and then we'll see what we'll be able to do in the Sprint," he lamented, denying that he was paying attention to the work of the other teams.
