Joan Mir will be watching the Austrian Grand Prix from a hospital bed. The Suzuki rider was involved in a violent fall during tests last Monday in Brno and, after a first check-up in the Czech Republic, he was able to return to Spain, where he was admitted to the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona.
The diagnosis was a serious pulmonary contusion, and Joan will have to remain hospitalized at least until Monday, as the medical director of the MotoGP, Dr. Angel Charte, explained.
"We performed cranial, thoracic, and abdominal CT scans with contrast. Both the cranial and abdominal CT scans were normal. We did not observe any involvement or damage of any vital organ, nor blood in the abdominal cavity. However, the thoracic CT showed a pulmonary contusion, mainly on the right side. Although his lungs work well, there's still a large contusion that requires rest and observation in the hospital, with daily tests performed," explained Dr. Charte.
"Along with my team, we decided to keep him hospitalized until Monday, then we'll perform another test to see if the contusion has healed and, in that case, he can go home," the doctor concluded.
