Marc Marquez gave up during the Q1, while Alex ended up falling during the last minutes of the round. A Saturday that leaves the HRC with a really bitter taste, since it had to cope with not having an official rider at the start of the Q2. If the weekend ended ahead of time for the eight-time world champion, his brother instead will be starting from the last position on the grid tomorrow afternoon.
To complicate his plans was a fall during the last minutes of the Q1, when Alex got up from a fall holding his right arm conspicuously.
“Fortunately, my right arm is okay," he began. "I only felt the pain of the fall at that moment but, in the end, it was only a blow. I think it's normal to feel pain when you end up on the ground. But, like I said, it was just a blow, nothing more."
So a first problem was averted. Then attention shifts to the afternoon.
“I was able to improve in the FP4, managing, among other things, to feel the right confidence in my race pace. The sensations were good, since I took an important step forward. In fact, I consider it my best free practice session since I've been racing in the MotoGP, especially for the work carried out with the set-up and the worn tires. I think these two things will help in the future."
Alex tries to see the glass half full, despite his last position on the grid.
“We're all going in the same direction. I made some changes to the bike last week, but this weekend I managed to take another step forward, getting closer to the fastest riders and reducing the gap that separates me from them. I'm motivated inside, even though I'm aware that I have to remain calm once the race starts on Sunday afternoon."
So the Spanish rider knows what to expect and how to behave.
“We have to make the most of our potential. Last Sunday, I suffered with the heat. As a result, I tried to change the set-up, and the results turned out to be positive. Unfortunately, I still struggle in the third sector but, I must say, that we've taken an important step forward."
Tomorrow, like yesterday, he'll be the only rider in the Honda garage.
“Personally, nothing changes for me if Marc is there or not, since I'm focused on myself and the bike. Maybe I miss comparing data with him, although I can rely on Takaaki, who was very fast throughout the race weekend."
