MotoGP, Bagnaia: "I'm not to blame for this crash and I can't explain it"

“With this bike I feel unbeatable, and I can do what I want with it. However, I'm having trouble understanding the GP23 and maybe it's better to ride two tenths slower. Carrying on like this without knowing why I crash is hard"

MotoGP: Bagnaia:

Pecco Bagnaia will be forced to give himself a really good kicking after this weekend in Austin, wasting a tempting opportunity to say the least. For his part the world champion is not looking for excuses, but at the same time he is searching for answers that don't seem to come.

At the end of the race, his comment was a mix of anger and disappointment.

“It's a shame about how it went – he began I too would like to know the reason for the crash, but it's difficult to be able to give an explanation. Obviously, I'm here to put my face on it, since I'm the rider. It would be nice, however, to understand what is happening”.

So, there is no shortage of questions on his part.

"Personally, I don't understand how it's possible to do 80 laps in three days, always doing the same thing, only to crash without doing anything different."

At Austin, it seemed like Argentina all over again.

"At Termas I laid the bike down touching the throttle in the wet and I recognize that mistake, but not today, I don't think I'm to blame here and I'm 100% convinced of it. Today I can't explain this crash and I'll never be able to explain it. It feels very strange to me, and it is difficult to continue like this. The world title? I'm not far from Bezz, but if we consider that I’ve thrown away 45 points in two races, that's not exactly the best."

Pecco then tries to analyse the situation.

“We have the best bike, and this is the best I've ever ridden, because I can do what I want with it. Our Ducati is perfect and all the riders on the grid would like it, since it's awesome and I feel unbeatable. But maybe the bike filters too much with the tires and maybe I'm missing some warnings in terms of feeling".

He then went into detail.

“You'll probably call me crazy, but in some ways, I'd prefer to ride one-two tenths slower to get more indications. I'm disappointed about what happened, because I'm having difficulty understanding this GP23 and something is escaping me. We must pick up where we left off, but above all try to work to understand”.

Bagnaia is one of the many riders who crashed today. Fewer than 15 made it to the finish line.

“This is a worse track than in 2022. Nevertheless, this year we were half a second faster per lap. A slide here or there is acceptable. Today we all decided to race with the hard tire. Perhaps it was the best compromise, but not too much since the temperatures were lower".
