MotoGP: Lecuona replaces Rins at Silverstone and skips Suzuka 8 Hours

Iker Lecuona will replace Alex Rins on the LCR team’s Honda at the Silverstone Grand Prix next weekend. Alex is still recovering from the bad accident he had during the Sprint Race at Mugello, when he  fractured his tibia and fibula and had to undergo two surgeries, one in Italy and the second in Spain.

Rins is still unable to get back on the bike, and HRC has decided to ask Lecuona to take his place. It’s not the first time Iker has raced in the MotoGP this year: he replaced Marc Marquez in the Jerez GP and Joan Mir in the Assen GP.

His presence in Great Britain wasn’t, however, certain because the Grand Prix is coinciding with the Suzuka 8 Hours (a very important race for Japanese constructors), which the Spanish rider will have to skip after winning last year’s edition.

I wish Alex a speedy recovery. I know how difficult it is to end up in certain situations,” Lecuona said. “At the same time, I’m happy to get on the bike, and  I want to give it my all and help the team. Plus, I like Silverstone, and it’ll be fun. I want to thank Honda and LCR for this opportunity.”
