MotoGP, Bastianini: “With Espargarò, it was a racing accident with a funny ending”

“I was behind Aleix, and the Aprilia got me. When I got up, I saw my bike was riding away. I decided to start again, but I was missing my left wing and had less downforce. Unfortunately, I had no grip, and I couldn’t accelerate.”

MotoGP: Bastianini: “With Espargarò, it was a racing accident with a funny ending”

Saturday at Losail was one Enea Bastianini wants to forget. In qualifying, the rider from Romagna was slowed down by Lecuona, who effectively denied him access into the Q2. Later, in the Sprint, he was involved on an accident with Oliveira and Aleix Espargarò that definitely influenced his race.

Despite the inconvenience, the Ducati rider got back on his GP23, bringing the race to a close.

“Today wasn’t my day,” he said. “I was hoping to pick up something more, starting with qualifying, where Lecuona slowed me down. During the race, there was  the accident between Oliveira and Aleix that I couldn’t avoid. Miguel braked hard while the others braked early. As a result, he couldn’t avoid contact with Espargarò.”

Enea doesn’t want to look for culprits, let alone point fingers.
“In my opinion, it’s a race contact. I was behind and touched Aleix’s bike. Later, when I got up, I saw my bike was riding away. It was a funny scene. Too bad.”

As mentioned, Enea decided to start again, completing the Saturday Sprint.
“Once I took off again, I was missing my left wing. I had less downforce, and the bike soared. I did a few laps at 1’53”, but I couldn’t do more. We definitely need to improve our grip for Sunday, since we’re suffering right now. Unfortunately, I suffer when I have to lift the bike, and I can’t accelerate.”
