MotoGP, Quartararo: "Yamaha has so many problems, it is worse than one major defect"

"We spoke about a possible satellite support team, but I can't add more. Hopefully we can make the most of the test day. We have a lot of new things to try. Today? That's our position, but I believed in a smaller gap. Recovering what we are missing will not be immediate."

MotoGP: Quartararo:

Fabio Quartararo did not go any better than seventh place in the Portuguese GP, but for the Yamaha rider it was not much of a surprise.

"Considering yesterday's Sprint, as for the gap, I was convinced I could finish closer to the leading riders, while the position does not surprise me - he declared - We still collected a lot of data and now we hope to take a step forward. My priority in tomorrow's test? A lot will depend on the weather because from the forecast it does not look good. I hope to take advantage of the day because we have some things to try."

But what is the M1 lacking today to be competitive? Apparently the situation is complicated. "It's not just a question of aerodynamics," he said, " We don't have a single major or serious problem to solve, it's many small aspects that we need to improve step by step, for example we need to improve the grip at the rear, in the electronics, in the geometry and in the position. There are many details to fix, and in my opinion it is worse than one major defect. For this we will have to be patient, as with only two bikes it is difficult to be quick in the resolution. With the factory we have talked about a possible satellite support team, but I cannot add more."

On the eve of the Portimao round, the Frenchman handed over a special helmet to head coach Diego Gubellini with the inscription "Let's hope to spend more years together." Is it a message that should he leave the team he will take it with him?

"I actually gave 25 to the guys on the team, certainly not with the same words for everyone. In this case it was supposed to have been given last championship in Valencia. Let's say that I have built a very good relationship with some of the team members, specifically those with whom I started the MotoGP journey. I dedicated this phrase to them," he concluded on a colorful note.
