MotoGP, VIDEO - Joan Mir opts to continue to use the # 36 instead of # 1

Not even this year will we see the # 1 on the fairing of the world champion in MotoGP. Joan Mir had promised to say today what his race number would be in 2021 and he has chosen the # 36. The 'fashion' of giving up on the # 1 was launched by Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez followed him. In MotoGP, however, Stoner, Hayden and Lorenzo all raced with the # 1 plate.

"The number will be the same as always, the loyal one the # 36. I think it would have been really awesome to use # 1, a unique experience and a dream, but I believe 36 is the number with which I’ve worked hard and it has taken me to where I am now: winning two World Championships. I consider my job is not finished yet, I have to continue working more than ever with this number in order to keep winning more titles, and to get more chances to decide which number I will race with the following season. This doesn’t mean that if it happens again, I won’t chose # 1, but for now it’s the 36, the number that represents hard work and suits me best, but it wasn’t an easy decision” explained Mir in the video you can find above.
