MotoGP, Marquez: "I learned it from Guardiola, the past doesn't count in sport"

"People forget what you did. I start optimistic in every GP, but my arm hasn't healed yet and it's all unpredictable"

MotoGP: Marquez:

Right now, for Marc Marquez, every Grand Prix is a kind of leap in the dark. His arm and shoulder are not yet in the best conditions and only once he’s out on the track can he realize what he can do. The Spanish champion, however, has one great merit: he always sees the positive side of things and even in his condition he is not giving up on it.

“I still have to start the weekend and I'm not worried, I try to be optimistic - he explains - I don't want to think about my arm, if I have problems then I will try to solve them, but at the moment I feel good. I trained in the right way and I'm ready to start ”.

This doesn't mean he won’t have to face any difficulties, but the way things are now Marc has to take every weekend as it comes, trying to get the best out of it.

“I knew my return wasn't going to be easy, but I also thought my recovery would be easier. But it's not like that - he admits - This makes everything unpredictable and you never know what will happen ".

Further complicating the situation is that the Honda is even not on top form...

“It certainly doesn't help, I'm not at 100% and neither is the bike - continues Marc - But I'm making progress and Honda is working hard. In the second race in Austria I was competitive, apart from the crash, and the most important thing is this: in every GP I am a little more in front. My goal is clearly not to win all the races, but to be closer to the best. Even here at Silverstone”.

In addition to a physical challenge, it is also mental and Marquez is aware of this. Yesterday he followed the training of the Manchester City football team and spoke at length with manager Pep Guardiola.

“It was nice, I also stopped for lunch, it wasn't planned, we chatted for two hours. But don't ask me if they'll take Ronaldo because I wasn't there to discover any secrets - jokes Marquez - I was able to learn things from Guardiola, one is that the mental side is very important, you need to survive. In the end, in sport there is only the present, people forget what you have done and you can only think about the past when you have retired. The present is everything ".

Even when you suffer...
