SBK: BSB: Scary moment for Jones, Ray wins Race 1 at Cadwell Park

Race 1 on the iconic Cadwell Park track – home to the second-to-last round of the regular season before the decisive Showdown – brought a wild Bradley Ray back to success on the Yamaha R1. But there were moments of panic in the first of the three British Superbike races held during the summer bank holiday weekend because of a violent accident involving Dan Jones.

The terrifying accident happened during Race 1 at the Mountain, the most adrenaline-pumping and fearful stretch of the Lincolnshire circuit. In the podium zone until that moment, Lee Jackson lost control of his Kawasaki, and ended up in a disastrous fall. The FS-3 Racing rider managed to survive, but his bike (which remained on the trajectory) was hit full on by Dan Jones. A pile up that also involved Takumi Takahashi and Kyle Ryde, both without consequences.

Race Direction quickly displayed the red flag and, after a few minutes, the reassuring news that the young iForce Lloyd & Jones PR Racing BMW rookies was fortunately okay. He was conscious and was brought to Hull Hospital for tests.

Ray triumphs over Skinner

Shortened by a couple of laps, the eBay Sprint Race gave Bradley Ray (Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha) his fourth victory of the season. Burned at the start, Rory Skinner, “Telespalla”, retained his leadership up to the checkered flag. Back from a double wild card in the Moto2 World Championship, while remaining close to Ray throughout the race, FS-3 Racing Kawasaki’s 20-year-old rider had to settle for a second place. Instead, the best result of 2022 was Danny Buchan’s with SYNETIQ BMW by TAS, on the podium at the expense of the championship leader, Jason O’Halloran, and of Tommy Bridewell.

Special-guest time

After a brilliant Superpole, bad luck haunted Tom Sykes during Race 1. Third up to the red flag, on the second to last lap of the second start, an exuberant Christian Iddon crashed into Mansfield, falling and finishing with a top-10 place. Good intentions are postponed until tomorrow, with the remaining two races and, above all, the presence of two special guests, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Andrea Locatelli, both expected in demonstration laps on the road Yamaha Rs.
